Let me see if I get this. The most successful countries were those Asian
ones that violated fundamental laws laid down by the World Bank and
self-appointed Ricardians, relying heavily on regulation, protection, and
financial repression. The least successful were the most deregulated,
opened-up, and financially "developed." This runs exactly counter to most
people's understanding of the degree of market orientation. Why say
something like this in the first place if you retreat on almost every
point, Herb?
