OOPS. I'm sorry. I don't know about the FBI undermining left-wing
economists (though it's possible it happened). I didn't mean to
give that impression. I was referring to the US left as a whole.
COINTELPRO was a FBI program which infiltrated various leftist
movements and encouraged them to fall apart (e.g., the Black
Panther Party). There were other _agent provacateur_ programs
that got less press coverage.  Anyway, my point was that as
the broader left fell apart (and not just due to FBI meddling)
that led to a lessening of the pressure on economists of all
stripes to ask leftist questions, etc.
