Re scramblers: Cable TV is supposed to work like that, but they run
commercials anyway.
Also, I'm not certain that the advertisers are always the ones to instigate
an influence attempt on a station. Occasionally an activist group from
the right wing gets a twitch about a type of programming going on and
informs the advertisers that they are going to organize a boycott of their
products if they continue to advertise on such-and-such programs. So
the stations regroup their programming somehow. Again this is more TV
than radio, but I think more people in the US get their news from TV
than any other single source. On the radio, the talk shows that are the
most popular are right wing flamers. We also have, on the average,
one propaganda TV station (at least) in every metropolitan area.
