Re: comparative systems reading list

The most widely used text is Gregory and
Stuart. Well written, but with a lot of
emphasis on standard neoclassical approach.
Second most is Schnitzer, more history
and a broader array of case studies, but very
sloppily written. Strong on Germany.
Third until recently has been Zimbalist,
Sherman, and Brown. Well done and has more
of a left tilt, but seriously out-of-date.
Is being revised.
Angresano is interesting in having a
strong institutionalist orientation. Good
on Sweden and the historical development of
capitalism focusing on Britain. Not very well
written.
The book of readings edited by Bornstein
is good and has just come out in a seventh
edition. Might consider just using it.
Use a lot of the country survey articles in
_The Economist_.
My wife and I are writing a Comp Sys. text
for Irwin, but it will not be available until
Sept. of next year (95). Good luck.
