capitalism: conference on saving and investment

I must admit that at first deciphering wordy conversations on email
appeared to me like looking for needles in a haystack, but my patience
paid off and I am beginning to find some of the needles. I particularly
liked the references by D'costa and Mitchell to the various form of
capitalism and their comments about southeast Asia where I have lived
and worked for some 15 years.

I recently wrote a paper on the various functional and dysfunctional
forms of capitalism which was turned down by the Cambridge Journal of
Economics largely because it sounded "irritatingly grandstanding" (I
suppose an nice example of North's expression of arrogance to South). I
will be happy to mail copies to any colloeague who would bear with the
fact that grandstanding ideas can sometimes originate from the South.

I have also written on the political systems of capitalist economies. One
of the papers appeared in World Development a few years ago and I would
be happy to send reprints to anyone wishing to get an intimate view of a
participant observer rather than a distant speculation.
