We don't KNOW that this story is an urban legend. Just because it's
been labelled as such doesn't meant that it is false. I read one of
the books about urban legends (dont' know the author's name) and
came up with two impressions: (1) the writing style is boring and
(2) the only proof that something is an urban legend is that it is
reported as happening to "a friend of a friend" or suchlike. THO
THIS story is told as happening to the story -- so it might be a
LIE but it doesn't live up to the standard criterion of an urban
legend. The only way to tell FOR SURE is to try the recipe and
see if it produces the same cookies as at Neiman-Marcus. Does
any professor at a research institution have a grad student in
search of a thesis topic? :-)
