Re: Participatory Planning
I agree with Trond. In an earlier e-missive, I emphasized the fact
that Soviet "leaders" were trying to emulate the perceived success
of capitalism in the West. I think that's true, but Trond's point
is also true: if the people had been able to win democratic rights,
then the leaders would have been pushed to consider environmental
impact to a greater extent. Of course, democracy might not be
enough, unless there is some mechanism to insure that Nature's
needs are represented (a Lorax, who speaks for the trees).
