Re the posting (I presume from Cockshott?--no name in it) on the
role of computers in making central planning feasible and the
Kornai "soft budget" critique. One important part of that critique you
haven't addressed is the role of innovation. Even assuming that the
"production of today's goods with today's technology" problems can
be surmounted without falling foul of Kornai, what is the motive
force under such a system to avoid the technological stagnation
problem of the Soviet era? As is well known, this relates not just
to fancier motorbikes, etc., but also to the environmental consequences
of outdated technology.
