I heard it from Bertell Ollman, who heard Jacques himself say it at NYU
late last year. Steven Cullenberg posted a message to PEN-L saying that JD
has a paper touching on this that will be published shortly - I think it
was the proceedings of a conference at UC-Riverside. I'm told that JD had
an article in Liberation several months back making this argument that had
Paris all abuzz.

The line is, as I understand it (strictly second-hand), that now that the
USSR is no more we can read Marx afresh as a critic of capitalism, not as
the supposed father of a bad system. Ollman said that JD was quite
straight about the outrages of (post)modern capitalism - no pomo attitude,
but a real concern about polarization, impoverishment, social destruction,
etc.
