Great article! I think it's quite common for working-class (or even
middle-class) musicians to fall apart after they are catapulted to
stardom. They lose all their friends, either literally or via their
conversion into toadies. They have success but it seems meaningless:
it doesn't buy happiness. They're always at the center of others'
attention and expected to regularly conquer new worlds. So they get
into drugs. Or fundamentalist religion (like Dylan).
