Wait, wait, there's more! List's powerful critique of
Smith stressed the 'causes' of the wealth of nations over the 'nature'
of said wealth, and in the process he focused on 'the theory of
productive forces' [e.g., 'if therefore a sacrifice of values is made
owing to protective tariffs, that sacrifice is compensated by the
acquisition of productive forces,....']. See Marx's 1845 essay on
List's National system of Political Economy [from which I've taken the
above quote--- as I don't travel with my copy of List]. michael On 25/05/2009 11:53 AM, Michael Perelman wrote: List had an influence on Marxist theory. He was asked to be the editor of a German newspaper, The Neue Rheinishe Zeitung, but his health prevented him from taking the job, which eventually went to a young German philosophy student. -- Michael Perelman Economics Department California State University Chico, CA 95929 Tel. 530-898-5321 E-Mail michael at ecst.csuchico.edu michaelperelman.wordpress.com _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list pen-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l -- Michael A.
