[Pen-l] Women entering workplace and dampening social revolution
Today I listened to a 2005 seminar from CEPR in which Heather Boushey
talked about women entering the workforce. I think the story is
pretty clear: workers did not share in benefits from productivity
gains (unions attacked in the relentless class war from above), men
started working more hours, women entered to help maintain the family
standard of living (and were enjoying the fruits of the feminist
movement) etc.
This made me wonder if this event, that Boushey I think said was
"one of the most important in the last 50 years", sort of helps put
the lid on social revolution.
The order of response to unfairness in the U.S. seems to be just to
work harder, then perhaps if that fails to maintain living standards,
social revolution (ish) responses start to proliferate.
