One of the major responsibilities for cost inflation and universities is 
the influence of the business sector which supplies most of the trustees 
and far too many of the university presidents. They prefer to spend money 
on impressive buildings.  For those with ambitions of greatness, they waste 
money bidding against each other for "star" professors rather than seeing 
to the needs of the faculty as a whole.
