Also, my sister works as a child welfare worker and she struggles daily to enable severely neglected and abused children to have some kind of chance in life. These are children who are literally beaten to death, starved to death, and, in less severe situations, simply confined to a life of living hell -- not necessarily vastly improved by being moved to foster care or group homes.

The mothers of these children sometimes have five, six, seven, eight children, all of whom are treated in the same way. My sister is greatly troubled by the thought that these women can just keep on having children.

I see this as a real issue, and I think some of the complaints about "welfare mothers" are connected to these kinds of issues.
