Why in the wide world of sports would I excuse torture, and on PEN-L
of all places?

I can't say it any better than I already have tried.  In a nutshell
(O.K., I know I'll regret this), I think the protestations are liberal
in
character.  Not radical.

I should probably give up writing anything longer than a Twitter.
