Re: [Pen-l] Identi.ca for Twittering Leftists?

Actually, not unlike the thread on the possible ideological clustering
of economists, one can argue that generations X,Y,Z, AA, BB etc. of
"young" economists will cluster using such technologies instead of AEA
meetings. On the other hand, it makes us/them easier to surveil with
an URPE site on Facebook (I am glad, however that more bumper stickers
with "Marxism" on them are now available, although for the wrong
reason (see Cafe Press)). They are transient technological trends due
to the current profitability of certain bandwidths for short messages
as in the 140 character Twitter, and their associated software and
providers as in the idiocy of "american idolatry" text-message voting
at $0.99 a shot. We can only hope for (more) embarassing litigation
from IM / SMS abuse not unlke poorly functioning 911 systems and
employees.

I've never understood the reasons for Twitter or, for that matter,
Facebook & Myspace social-networking sites. What are they? Are these
simply transitory fads?
