Well the way Joe Kennedy (father of Jack et al) put it back in 1935 or
so: "I would be willing to give u0 half my money if I were left to enjoy
the other half in peace." (Something like that.) That's why militant
mass movements, even if they ultimately "fail," still get quite a bit
out of the bastards in charge. Dirksen didn't civil rights an idea whose
time had arrived  out of giving a damn but out of concern that
_everything_ might go on changing.
