Then there's no "rose in the cross of the present".

To treat the individual as necessarily passively going along with the "common sense" dominant in their context, i.e. as unable to develop "enlightenment" understood as the developed capacity to think for yourself and, on this basis, rationally criticize this "common sense", is, according to Marx, to make despotism an inescapable aspect of human existence.

Foucault, for whom (appropriating the bath water of Nietzsche and Heidegger) "being" is nothing but "force" and "human being" (as nothing but the "creature" of this "being") is nothing but "violence- doing" and "dominating", explicitly constructs history in this way.
