I have also found the lecture - as I saw it on google - quite
interesting. However, though being a socialist, I'll add a few
quibbles with some of its points.

- American workers are tired of reformist solutions and will look to a
radical alternative this time around.

How can Americans be tired of something they haven't experienced since
the New Deal? Social Democracy is barely a presence in the US
political culture, never mind revolutionary socialism.

- The computing revolution is an achievement of communism.

How are short-lived partnerships among software engineers communist
enterprises? Still, it's worth remembering the contribution of the
state sector and open-source to computing.

- Keynesian fixes don't work because they leave the fox in charge of
the hen house.

But they often can (as can a welfare state) produce tangible results
in the near term, right? Hence the attraction.

(By the way Rick, have you retired from teaching at UMass?)
