If he were tough on the AIG scamsters, he might actually increase the
popular base needed to support him in his other "battles." It's not an
either/or.

(As I said awhile back, the recent bubble was different from most in
that a lot of the "killings" earned by financiers were paid (bonuses
or golden parachutes or whatever) after the cusp of the bubble. In the
game of musical chairs, they could sit down _after_ the music had
stopped because they had insider advantage.)
