The key part is the extension, not the extra $25 or the tax relief.
Most on UE are not going to pay much tax in the first place.
^^^^^^
CB:
Obviously, the amounts of money here
are miniscule in the context of our
talking about trillions.
I have represented a number of
people on unemployment comp,
and some of us would be surprised
how miniscule amounts of money
seem bigger to the poorest
sectors of the working class.
$25 a week or $100 per month is
close to the monthly payment for the minimal
insurance that Blue Cross/Blue Shield
must give somebody in Michigan. So, the
$25 increase could pay a recently laidoff
person's medical insurance for a year
and a half for somebody who gets the extension
too. That can be important
to someone on a tight budget recently tightened
more by being laid off or fired.
Or it could pay the car insurance for someone
who has to drive their kids to school each day
etc.
I know someone like that.
You're the tax expert. I guess
the 1/4 or 1/3 of $2500 would
be refunded some way anyway ?
