It's more like a Mandarinate that enjoys the good graces of the powers
that be. It's more a matter of  justifying or covering up or abetting
the latter's crimes  than actually being directly involved in crime.
Without the powers that be, the economics profession would be nothing.
It would count as little as the lit crit folks.
