Why not call yourself a Buddhist? That's what "religious atheists" are!!
Atheism requires a being in the world stance.  Buddhism is about dropping the illusions of life...a Buddhist can't know what is outside the world but knows it is there.  And therefore is not an atheist.

A-THEISM:  the "a," expressing negation,="without." "theos"="God."  Atheism literally means "without [a] God."  Because the "world" is "everything that is the case" there can be no "stance" that is  "outside the world." The assertion of something "outside the world" is precisely the dominant "illusion of life." To it people have the *strongest* attachment, *religious* attachment.  By showing that  "God" is not the case, Buddhism is antidote to that illusion.
