Yes, you're right: that is the fundamental issue. So the question is, what about the other children? What rights do they have?

The other question is why make education a scarce commodity? There's no need for it to be scarce.


I think there are three issues, really:

(a) what about other Little Johnny's (which you mention above and which David characterises as our intruding on the preppie's rights).

(b) the issue of what constitutes a good education and who can measure that.

(c) whether and why Little Johnny is really that much more intelligent than his peers and his parents able to put him in a charter school rather than a public one.
