Linked here is a recording of the Inaugural speech of U.S. President Roosevelt in 1933 at the bottom of the depression. I had read about but never heard this speech before.

I was amazed by how frankly - and forthrightly - Roosevelt condemns the bankers and financial leaders of that time.

He refers to them as 'unscrupulous money changers condemned in the court of public opinion' and 'rejected by the hearts and minds of men' .

He states directly that they are motivated only by 'self-seeking...they have no vision, and where there is no vision the people perish."

He states that while they have proposed solutions, their solutions are based only on their own self-seeking for profit, and he specifically condemns them for advocating "more lending" and :more debt" which is meant for their own benefit.

He calls directly for government action to put an end to profitering by manipulating other peoples money, and promises massive public works to employ the unemployed.

What a contrast this speech makes to Obamas pandering to Wall street and his employment of it in his cabinet!

Roosevelt was in no sense a perfect being, but I think you will be as moved as I was by this speech
