A number of overlapping "systems" seem to be failing, but this does not
quite let obama off the hook, if we remember TR's description of the
presidency as a "bully pulpit." There are no systemic or constitutional
barriers to his speaking the "truth" as he sees it. But I agree with
Marvin: It isn't opportunism or timidity or expedience but inner
conviction which is governing Obama's words and deeds. I have always
claimed that the DP is principled, courageous, and intelligent.
Courageous in that they (or the core leaderhip) prefers to lose
elections rather than violate principle. It's just that their principles
are disgusting.
