Our trip here has stunningly revealed my own ignorance about China. Our hosts told us that the country has no real idea of how many of the unregistered workers are unemployed. The article confirms what we are told about the kind of stimulus program that China is developing -- one that is intended to be used for productive purposes. However, some of those productive purposes, such as building more roads and encouraging purchases of automobiles is certainly unproductive environmentally.
