Purpose, what purpose, purpose for what.  No, this is just the same old conservative crap (in the sense of resistance to real change and commitment to the hegemony of corporate capitalism) which has dominated American politics for at least the last 40 years.  As the Clash once pointedly observed "If you sleep with nuns, you join the Church."
