There is no Left in the U.S., though I believe there are 10s of
thousands whose (passive) opinions would make them members or
sympathizers with an organized left. (Note: I do not assume that an
organized Left would necessarily take the form of a single hegemonic
party.) Given that absence, discussionof the crisis tends to be mere
punditry, of no particular significance.
