a point I forgot to add:

We might reject the capitalist definitions of "progress" (either the
neoliberal or social democratic versions) and think of it as the
perfection of something else besides capitalism, e.g., implying
greater democratic sovereignty in harmony with nature. Again, I don't
like the word progressive though, unless the argument about what
"progress" means leads to a more fundamental discussion.
