Re: [Pen-l] For those teaching irony

Irony? Isn't that the entire enterprise of teaching (and/or culturally
reproducing via degrees, tenure, and Nobel prizes) "the dismal
science"?

The first section of today's (12/13/08) Wall Street Journal has two
fine examples for those of you teaching irony.

The full page ad on the back of the section is headlined: "HERE'S TO
LESS" and the advertiser is -- wait for it -- De Beers diamonds.

The full page ad on page 5 is for An Executive Conference titled
"ECO : nomics", subtitled CREATING ENVIRONMENTAL CAPITAL at the BACARA
RESORT in Santa Barbara, California. Among others Boone Pickens, Alan
Mulally CEO of Ford, and Al Gore will participate.

For those not struck by irony, you can request an invitation to the
above at ECOnomics.wsj.com.
