Possibly!

And it isn't just or mostly Obama, or even at all. There is the simple
impact of the general assumption that the only way forward is electing
good people. There is the Fallacy of Progress: That we are on a path
that leads forward and it is just a matter of slower or faster motion
along  that path. And there is the fact of overwork: people are too
damned tired or busy. Somehow or other, more free time opened up in the
'60s, and that was not an insignificant element in that explosion.

Almost 300 years ago Pope gave excellent advice to radicals attracted to
the Democratic Party:

Faith I shall give the answer Reynard gave,
"I cannot like, Dread Sir, your Royal Cave;
Because I see, by all the Tracks about.
