Of course "the left" should mobilize a mass movement -- but

a) What is "The Left"*? What form of existence does it have? How could
"The Left" go about planning and implementing in a coherent way that
project?

b) There have been remarkably few mass movements in the last two
centuries. Do we really want to say that is because leftists of the past
have been too stupid to know that their task was to create a mass
movement?

*Scare quotes because my sense is that while there are quite a few
leftists in the u.s., there is no entity which can reasonably be
referred to as "The Left."
