it really doesn't answer the idea that "there are other meanings to
the word 'growth'." It simply accepts the "general discourse"
uncritically, with the effect of setting up a scarecrow version of
"growth."
in a science, such as biology or physics, practitioners don't use
unadorned words like "growth" or "expansion" to mean "development of
the organism" or "growth of the size of the universe." Even in
economics, there are other kinds of growth besides that of GDP, such
as growth of real wages, measured happiness, and environmental
sustainability.(Of course, some if not all of those growth rates are
negative.)
