I always thought Bush's anti-intellectualism, lack of nuance and
ignorance generally were quite real. He really seemed to believe that
he had this unique ability to into a person's eyes and understand
their character, and that was enough to be a great leader.

agreed. certainly he impersonates a cowboy, but how is he different from so many dissolute slob sons of patrician texas families, like big ranchers and oil men? i don't really know, but i am guessing not much. or at all. but raghu makes a better point.

conversely, sarah palin is a geniune yahoo who *also* plays one on tv. i would say she is actually less a genuine yahoo for her public performances of her yahooness. if you see what i mean.
