Re: [Pen-l] McCain's veep candidate has Down Syndrome son
Greetings Economists,

do you sense some sort of libertarianism in the argument, perhaps?
Doyle;
Yes, perhaps this is what I sense. My gauge is the bad outcomes we
have now. If the right, or freedom is against what really occurs, I
mean abortion must trump other social needs then that premise fails us
as a means of liberating us.
However, I'm not going to pretend we can argue this out. My thinking
is clear enough. I suspect you have much in common with me in the
broad sweep of what you want to happen, and this is a good place to
stop.

Selective abortion on the basis of disabilities, on the other hand, I
suspect, will only increase.
Doyle;
Yes, I'm sure in reality this will increase. We would need as you
point out a very large movement to alter the course of prejudices.
This educates us that the right has us pinned to the wall about a
'principle'. We divide ourselves because I won't give up my
perspective on disability, and for most of the left, a principle
trumps the abuses. but in times of change and things loosen up these
sorts of divisions resolve in ways it is hard to foresee. I'm
confident the equalitarian strivings of the left will find a way to
mend the chasm.
thanks,
Doyle Saylor
