Re: [Pen-l] McCain's veep candidate has Down Syndrome son

Doyle, this is a complete misunderstanding of the abortion question. It

Doyle;
This claim is obviously in error. Sexuality is not separated from procreation. The offer to make women able to enjoy sex as a right is what you talk about, but in no way is the vast majority of procreation divorced from sex. That is why the principle has troubles. The emancipation of women has not been greatly affected by abortion rights, and it is because principles outside of great movements cannot carry the day. One cannot take one element of potential rights women ought to have and make it the defining characteristic of a just society.

Carrol,
Abortion is also safer than birth.

Doyle
agreed. Further I am not arguing against abortion, but I am saying it is not an absolute principle. That the left needs to work deeper about the meaning of what is a left society.

Carrol
It doesn't make a damn bit of differnce what the woman's motive is, and
you have no right even to inquire as to her motive.

Doyle
Yes I do when those motives lead to aborting female children. That female children are not a target of abortion is as fundamentally important to the emancipation of women as the right to abortion. Your position obviously neglects the bad results because your position is anchored in a single principle rather than a social compact.

Carrol
A fetus is a parasite until the woman decides otherwise.

Doyle
Ha ha, I know you mean to protect an important issue, but a fetus is not a parasite. You use the term to topple church doctrines of 'holy being'. But as a species reproduction is not parasitic.
thanks,
Doyle
