Re: [Pen-l] Question on overdetermination
Greetings Economists,
I don't think this is about status. The philosophy of materialism
rests upon some claims that split European opinion and went along with
communists into the rest of the world. The Marxist argued with
western philosophers about materialism for quite awhile. The
metaphysics of positivism and Marxist clashed for a long time.
This is not a subject that lends itself to resolution here.
Is it appropriate to study Freud? As has been noted on this list in
the past, the study of Freud continues in English departments but not
in medicine. This focus though on who studies what is to me, about
who controls teaching more than who is important to study. There are
many worthies. but an unjust society does not provide equal access
all the way around. Tout court.
Thanks,
Doyle Saylor
