Re: [Pen-l] Canada Day

What a country! To have its national anthem in two different languages
*with two different sets of lyrics* and still be one of the world's most
successful democracies! (Meech Lake accords not withstanding. And yes I
know about the ill treatment of First Nation peoples and have great sympathy for
them.)

I have immensely enjoyed my visits there, and am glad forever that as a
child growing up in New Hampshire I had Radio Montreal and the CBC
to listen too. Yes, hockey night in Canada was great, but also Prairie
Schooner, and the many documentaries and programs on "The Great White
North".

PS. If you ever get to Ottawa I strongly recommend a trip to the Museum of
Civilization across the Ottawa River,

followed by a (short walk if you are inclined) trip into Hull for a good
dose of Quebecois-ness.

I forgot to wish everyone a wonderful Canada Day (July 1). BTW, is there a
famous event in Canadian history that this day honors?
