Here's another scam that I checked into and found that it was actually
encouraged by government regulation. My wife was covered for medical
insurance under my employer's benefit plan. When she turned 65, Blue
Cross/Blue Shield refused to pay any claims as primary carrier. Regardless
of whether or not she actually had Medicare coverage, they treated her as if
she did. She had to sign up for Medicare, which paid as primary, and BC/BS
only covered the residual. Incidentally, my employer received no reduction
in premium.
