A tentative hypothesis to explain this orgy of wishful thinking. At the
present nothing 'we' (leftists) can do is going to have any impact on
policy over the next four years or so. Most of those suddenly flocking
to Obama (not counting the whites whose liberal racism he soothes)
really _know_ this fact of their irrelevance but cannot admit it to
themselves or others. And a strong recognition of the necessity of
change coupled with a st4ong sense of personal futility is the mixture
which leads to a search for the Man on the White Horese. GIVE US A
LEADER! GIVE US A LEADER! GIVE US A SAVIOR!
Obama probably hasn't a clue that this is his drawing appeal, but his
campaign by its combination of emptiness of content with personal
charsima has appealed to it.
