as I understand it, the military and the industries allied to it have
been perfectly willing to accept and reinforce the myth that the
Patriot missiles could do a job that they weren't designed for
(shooting down SCUDs) since it served their interests. However, the
facts seem to be that Saddam's SCUDs were mostly defective or poorly
managed and so mostly shot down themselves (as it were).

The tests of the US missile defense system have either produced
failures or have been totally fixed to ensure success.
