Just to complement the historical reference.  I'm not endorsing
Zinoviev heavy-handed methods and the catholic-Soviet vision he pushed
on the European left.  There was a lot of arm-twisting going on,
trying to export the Soviet template to the rest of Europe.  Lenin
himself wanted the groups who were supporting the Soviets (regardless
of origin) to unify their organizations.  It's clear in retrospect
that the experience of the forceful "Communist-ification" of these
groups wasn't very successful.
