The mechanism of habit in the frontal lobe is somewhat known. Cut that off and people are much more malleable. I'm not recommending a frontal lobotomy on scientist. I see married people who fight all the time and make up and this suggests that feelings are malleable and the lack of malleability in a group of scientist has a lot to do with how little emotional content is addressed in their work. I'll give a moral example, pretty hard to get me to push a child in front of a car, my reaction is down right rigid. Is that obsession?

If the vast majority of science is 'rational' meaning avoiding a lot of
emotional baggage per se, their lives do not well represent the ability
like the fighting couple to exercise feelings and be able to find the
love making in the screaming banter of anger.
