Comment on UAW's coming bargaining. What a shame that someone, probably working class thinks that autoworkers' wages and benefits are "way out of line".

I believe the auto industry in the US is dead and the only reason the
UAW even exists anymore is bcause the AFL-CIO *needs* it to exist...
perhaps as a reminder that "industries" come and go even WITH strong
unions and able workers.
If that were the case, I'd hope to see something resembling
international solidarity from the AFL-CIO. Kidding.... Kidding...
In California, most of the unions more resemble mutual benefit societies
where it IS about wages, bennies, and nothing else.
Unfortunately that includes the SEIU, who's city workers in Santa Cruz
have taken to complaining about the homeless because they have to clean
up after them, and backed an ordinance that made it illegal to be in any
parking lot, open air, or structural, in the city for longer than 15
minutes.
You COULD get ticketted for changing your child's diaper at your car...
but you won't...
Can anyone say here de facto selective enforcement?
That should be coming up for judicial testing soon as there has been a
rash of attacks on women around the city, so the city does the only
thing it knows how to do, crack down on the houseless and 'hippies'
hanging out in the downtown area. The city says it's going to start
applying the law even though the attacks have not happened in parking lots.
The SEIU doesn't just abandon the poor and downtrodden, they also
abandoned an organizing drive by Peet's coffee shop workers in Santa
Cruz even though they were all released, fired, after a union verified
vote to unionize. Peet's hired a whole new crew, that has to have been
at least 10-15 people... except for one person bumped up to manager.
Nary a whimper from the SEIU.
I guess they think they're more secure collecting dues from redneck city
workers.
I'm afraid unions as Charles understands them to be... wants them to be,
are history.
Just ask any construction site worker in California how many times a
Teamsters manned cement truck has driven through their picket line if
you need proof.
