No he didn't, the mistake is to interpret what he's saying as relevant
to any society other than industrial societies, which by their very
nature are *Never* going to be an ideal social systems.
I'd elaborate on that, but I've got to accomplish some industrially
'neccesary labor' in a few minutes. Besides, i'd just be reiterating the
body of Marcuses works if I did.
Herbert Marcuse was a psychoanalyst (first, and a marxist second).
His analysis was targeted at the psychological/spiritual fallout of the
industrial so-called "revolution". His interest was NOT in fine-tuning
the industrial system, but eliminating it or seriously bending it.
That's where he and Stan Goff tread the same ground, and other marxists,
like marxist 'financial advisors' who will go un-named, the ex-mayor of
this city Mike Rotkin who lectures marxism at UCSC and created social
strife, unconstitutional laws, and divisivness in the city he oversaw...
don't.
