Re: feminism

Just a little comment here because Carrol raised Marlene Dixon. When I
was in the group she led, and it was not founded by her but by nine
lesbians whom she more or less removed as soon as she took over, or
made her poodles, I met my wife and got introduced to disability issues
in that small 'sect'. One of the things I learned was how little the
left knew or cared about how to deal with disability. Lip service yes,
but roll up your sleeves and do the work no.

But even with it's flaws it was eye opening to watch women lead a left.
A lot of beneath the surface changes happened. Yes Marlene was an
atrocious leader, yes the sub leadership made similar mistakes, but in
my eyes I felt Marxism which inspired them was able to transcend the
frameworks that kept Women out of the leadership role that was their
due.

In my view Yoshie reflects the very best of that sort of development.
We need many more Yoshie's. Mistakes are made by the left, but in this
day it is over that the movement on the left is male led. This is not
about a new division of power given to the other sex. Marxism is about
building social equality based upon the work we do. But it is about
opening the door and getting things like disability, sexuality, women's
oppression put to the top of the agenda and building a movement about
that.

Yoshie is a smart and innovative leftist. When people disagree with
Yoshie they should keep in mind that building a mass movement requires
thinking outside the box. Let me repeat we need many Yoshie's however
much it disgusts people. Feeling that inner disquiet or asocial
response is ok, but after you know what you feel get on with the task
of uniting the left and building a mass movement.
