Basically it boils down to camaraderie and routine strategies.
The strategies are pretty straightforward, and this aspect of the game
is certainly well-handled by the Americans, as by the Europeans.
E.g., in best ball, the more accurate driver of the ball might hit
first to ensure the ball gets in the fairway (e.g. Furyk), then the
"big hitter" (e.g., Woods), smashes a long drive, and if Woods hits in
the fairway, they use that ball, otherwise they use Furyk's.
The Americans don't seem to have the joie de vivre that the Europeans
display. They seem to be there to compete to win, and only that,
whereas the Europeans seem to be there also to have fun and to enjoy
each other's company. Simplified to be sure, but that's the rough
sketch.
