Re: pk on immigration reform
In a message dated 3/27/2006 1:08:56 P.M. Eastern Standard Time,

Does anybody know what sort of studies he has in mind? Were they written by
Tom Tancredo
Krugman does mention its source: "The most authoritative recent study of
this effect, by George Borjas and Lawrence Katz of Harvard, estimates that U.S.
high school dropouts would earn as much as 8 percent more if it weren't for
Mexican immigration".
George Borjas has made a life time career out of writing anti-immigrant and
anti-union work on labor economics. A student of right wingers Jacob Mincer
and Gary Becker at Columbia in the mid seventies. After it, he was quickly
hired by Harvard's Kennedy School of Government for its "human resources"
program.
Immigration reform is going to be the launching pad for a raging political
battlefield in the US as the right wingers become more vociferous and bolder
in their goals and as the pro immigrant labor side also becomes more
confrontational in its response. Things will be heating up, no doubt.
