I met Berhanu briefly in NYC and, I think, at Binghamton also in the
late 1980's.  He was good friends with a Marxist couple who were
involved in the Nicaragua solidarity movement and highly respected by
them.  I also know that *Anwar Shaikh *had a high opinion of him. Can't
speak to his ideological orientation since the late 80's, but those two
factors were enough to get me to send off a letter to Rice.
